i want a ps3 and i was going to get the 40 gig because it 100 dollars less than the 80 gig but and my parents will not buy a 500 dollar item for christmas and i just found out that the 30gig has no built in wi fi

If you want backwards compatability, go with the 60 gig. The 80 gig uses software emulation to play the old games, the 60 gig has a hardware emulator to play old games, and does a better job of it. I also think the 80 gig came with HDMI, but I'm not sure.

If you're parents wont buy a $500 dollar item, then go with the 40GB PS3 because it has built in WiFi, but the down side is that the 40GB PS3 isn't backward compatible like the 20GB PS3.

This may sound crazy but if you want the 80GB PS3 bad enough you could make a deal with your parents. You can say this, " Mom/Dad if you get me the 80GB PS3 for Christmas next year for Christmas the only thing you have to get me is a PS3 game or something under $100 dollars". Try that and see what they'll say.

There is such of a thing as a 60 gig . i have one and they lowered the price to $399 dollars i hope you'll have fun with your ps3.
