If it was x-10=3, then 13 would be right

10-x=3, to solve this you just need to add/ subtract things to/from both sides. Start by subtracting 10 from both sides, so you're left with -x=-7, then since you're looking for x, and not -x, you would multiply both sides by -1 (any negative multiplied by negative becomes positive) and you would get x=7. You know 13 is not a solution because if you plug in 13 for x you would get 10-13=3 which is wrong, 10-13=-3

No, 13 is not the solution

10-13 = -3 thats right MINUS 3

10 - 7 = 3

because

10 - x = 3
10 = 3 + x
10 - 3 = x
7 = x

The answer is 7.

X cannot equal 13. That would make the difference -3, not 3.
The answer is 7.

10 - 13 would be a -3 since a positive (10) and a negative (-13) give u a negative, the only correct answer is 7

You are right - that answer is wrong. Substitute x=13 into the equation and you will not get the correct solution.

X=7 is the answer.

if the question is "what does x equal?" then the answer is not 13, it is 7 because 10 - 7 = 3
if you don't understand the whole x thing, maybe you should talk to your teacher and get them to explain it again to you

its 7

2007-11-04 14:28:53 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 1 1

no. If you add an x to both sides, the equation would be
10=3+x.
Then you subtract a 3 from both sides and you get
x=7
