I realize Marty wasn't happy with his playing time, but since moving to Philly he's done wonders for this team, and he also helped pull in Briere.
If I were the coach of Buffalo, I would have tried my hardest to keep Biron.
What do you think about this?
Smart or stupid?

Let's think about what you said 'If I were the coach in Buffalo, I would have tried my hardest to keep Biron"

Well, the problem was that the coach (Lindy Ruff) has never been topo happy with Biron. So, I'm not sure that Ruff has shed too many tears over the loss of Biron.

Buffalo had two goalies who were capable of being number 1. Miller outplayed Biron in 2005-06 when they both had 30+ starts, and Miller was Ruff's favourite last year.

So, the fact is, it was smart of Buffalo to trade Biron. A proper back-up goalie would be cheaper. This way they saved money and have T.J. Brennan in return.

It's all good. Had Buffalo split the first two games with the Islanders, they'd be a playoff team now, and when the season ends, I'm sure that is where they'll be. Only 2 poiints out, but with a game in hand.

Biron may be playing well now, but Miller has more potential in the long run. Besides, Biron was not happy in Buffalo so part of his success in Philly may be the fact that he likes playing there and he likes being a number 1 goalie.

It was a smart move over the long run.

Biron is going to take the Flyers into the play-offs, and Buffalo only has one decent goalie, and he ain't looking so hot. Last year, the Sabres were explosive, and, even though Miller wasn't that great, it wasn't immediately obvious, because his teammates always scored more than he missed.
But the truth is, it's not that it was stupid of Buffalo to let Biron go, it was smart of Biron to go.

Well right now Marty is the better goalie but last season it seemed like a good idea and i think that Miller is a very good goalie he was the first goalie for Buffalo to Win 40+ games which i still believe he can do that this year again and besides Miller is younger and in the long run Miller was the best choice but Marty will be back in Buffalo in the Offseason his wife is from Buffalo from what at least that is what i heard so i think it was Stupid for them to trade him a only get a second round draft pick Marty is worth 2 1st round draft picks at least plus buffalo didnt even keep their trade aqusitions what a waste

no longer mad.. yet genuinely giving up a brilliant backup for a 2d around %. isn't a extraordinarily intelligent deal. particularly once you're approximately to make a attainable Stanley Cup run the place the team will probable be playing 20+ video games. Can Miller play 20 at as quickly as without needing injured or a having a minimum of a activity or 2 the place he desires alleviation? Buffalo and this is followers greater appropriate desire so. each physique factors to New Jersey and Brodeur and the reality that many communities pass all the way with a million goalie. nicely that works in basic terms high quality IF the goalie remains healthy AND if the commencing goalie is used to playing ninety 5% of the video games for the team like Brodeur does. i think of it extremely is a extensive possibility for the Sabres... worse case difficulty... Miller is administered via an opponent in activity a million of the 1st around of the playoffs (no longer an impossibility)... He is going out with a concussion for a month... secure to assert it relatively is it... activity over Buffalo. Can Ty Conklin lead this team to the finals? this is an extremely volatile flow buying and advertising Biron for a draft %.. If it replaced into to liberate cap area on the prospect of killing your Stanley Cup opportunities then it extremely is a case of a penny smart and a pound silly. good success Buffalo and preserve Miller with your lives through fact you'll be effective warring parties are going to hit you the place it hurts the main and the place you're maximum susceptible... in purpose.

It seemed like a good idea at the time, but in hindsight, it looked pretty obvious that Biron wasn't happy in Buffalo, hence the reason why Miller was better than him. Also, it's the GM who makes the trading, not the coach.

a goalie is as good (if not better) than his team. either way, the sabres had a good goalie. but biron is doing good now because of his surrounding team. look how he did when miller was hurt for december a couple of seasons ago. he played great because of his teammates. miller is less money and is staying longer. biron would of wanted more probly. but without a good goalie, there can not be a good team. besides, coaches dont choose who stays or who goes. thats the gm, although coaches do have a say in it.

Biron looks great, but he has a better squad in front of him and is also not dealing with the off-season ufa mess that is consuming the city of Buffalo.

One may very well end up as the clear superior to the other, but that call cannot be made just yet. Afterall, the two were only separated 6 months ago.

I am a flyers fan. I think that it was good for the Flyers and buffalo because the flyers got a great goalie. Ryan miller is so good though, just a bit better than Biron so he won. It was good for the Flyers though because you were right, Im sure he helped pull in Briere

It was a smart move cap wise last season. They needed the extra cap room to give room to bring in Dainius Zubrus in for the playoff run and allow Tim Connolly to return to the active roster without going over the Cap. Biron was a very good goaltender and was really a big fan favorite up in buffalo; however he needed a change of scenery and Philadelphia was the only one who wanted to bite on him last season. Unfortunately it was a stupid move in the end but it was the smart one to make last season.
