I would like to order something online and have it shipped to him but I am clueless as to what would be a good thing to send. I was wanting it to be some sort of food, preferably something traditionaly thanksgiving. Any ideas?

Some of the things are a bit costly so you can save money by purchasing these things locally and shipping them yourselves. If you have children you can have them make those Hand print turkeys for "dad" or either pictures and make a frame around them by hot gluing leaves and mini pine cones or acorns around the border. I think that Nuts and Jerky and things like that would be a great thing to send. I don't quite think that turkey would last that long unfortunately, but you can send cards and candies and a pillow is something I have heard a lot of soldiers ask for recently. Other than that your love.

When I was deployed (I served in the Navy on aircraft carriers), I preferred to get things that were manufactured and packaged....they lasted longer and could withstand the major fluctuations in temperature and the harsh package handling.

Do you know how long it takes for your husband to receive a package? If it's only a week or so, then you may be able to send him some homemade items. But usually it's 2 weeks or more. So think about it....the pumpkin bread and cookies can get pretty bad. I'd often get stuff that was inedible (covered in mold).

So stick with things that are packaged and won't get yucky from the temperature changes (IE: steer away from chocolate).

But ask your husband too...I don't know where he is deployed and what weather he is dealing with right now. When I was on the carrier in the Arabian Gulf, my packages sat on a steel flight deck in 120 degree weather for hours....I don't know what your husband's situation is. That's why so many people recommend jerky and nuts!

My husband is currently in Iraq and you cant actually send him " a meal" but last Thanksgiving i went and purchased the HORMEL COMPLEATS Turkey & Dressing (i bought several of them) that they sale at the commissary , they arent frozen or anything like that so he could just stick it in the microwave and i sent homemade bread (for the roll part of the meal) and pumpKin cookies. But where my husband is stationed at they had a HUGE thanksgiving dinner at the chow hall.. they had turkey, ham, lobster, steak... you name it he said it was there. Good luck on your deployment!!!

Hickory farms sends all sorts of stuff, and I got a catalog from a gift company which had fruits and sausages, cheeses, etc. I don't have anyone overseas, so I don't know if that is permissible.
