You can use any fleece. Thin fleece will give you a fun, curly effect. Thick fleece will give a straight fringe that lies flat. Just use a regular double knot.

I like the non-pilling the best. It soft and keeps longer. But any kind of fleece will work.

Yes, any kind. My local Joann's also sells a "non-pilling" fleece. I've made the fleece blankets, and as long as you wash and dry them on gentle you shouldn't have any pilling problem.

I agree with the other answers.
you can make a lot of No- sew items by using a felting needle.
Hats and little animals.
