Same thing they did for diapers for their babies. There is a very soft grass that is also when dry very absorbant.
They made straw baskets to carry their babies on their backs like a back pack. It was lined with this dry grass which kept the babie dry and comforable. Every so often it was removed and the baby fed and new grass fill his straw back pack. It also when wet with water was a wash cloth to clean up with. Then when soiled this grass was thrown away.
since clothes was made from deer skin, under wear was made from woven grass. Even nursing mothers had bra's made from this grass to keep breasts from staying wet and getting sore. They were not as primitive as some would like you to believe. Some of the baskets they wove was so tight it held water. They even used them to carry water along with using gords as bottles and dishes.
today try buying a deer skin outfit and you will see they are very soft and comfortable.

what makes you think indian girls are any different from other girls.. They had access to the same items as you (whatever race you are)... Also if you are talking about 100years ago or so, women of all cultures used different items to hold back the flow.. Some used rags, strips of old linen, sea sponges (if they had access to them, grasses , anything that would hold it back.. There are cultures that even had little brass cups to insert in (very similar to what the rubber cup is today in use)

Lol. Ironic. Me and my bf were talking about such things not too long ago. I believe they rested in bed with a towel or rag down there while others may have worn towels wrapped around them. Im pretty sure even back then people werent so nasty as to walk around with blood dripping down there legs, but who knows.. we were cave men at one time haha.

Many sat in small huts outside of the village until they were finished. This might sound bogus but I learned this in a Cultural Anthropology class. Amish women use a lot of rags. This is also not a lie.

The same thing your great grandmother used.
A piece of material tied in place. They were used over and over again. Think of them like the old cloth diapers. They simply washed them out and reused them the next time.

American Indian women never just walked around with a piece of cloth on...They did what frontier women did and used cloth and boiled them. Pocahontas was not the Disney version..come on.

That's a good question. They probably just got leaves or their cloths to stop the bleeding when they saw it.

They probably put a piece of cloth to act as a tampon

I'd have to agree with the cloth theory
