How do I get the milk off my baby's tongue if he can't drink water until he is 6 months?????????

My son has milk on his tongue and i have been wiping it gently with a wet cloth after every feeding, but i don't see any changes.

It might not be milk, it might be "thrush"...Thrush is one of those infections that looks and sounds much worse than it is. Although sometimes painful, the most common symptom is for an infant to have white patches coating the inside his mouth. You may see these patches on the insides of his cheeks, on his tongue, on the roof of his mouth, and on his lips and gums as it spreads.
These white patches, unlike breastmilk or formula, can not easily be wiped away. However, if you do try to wipe them away, the area may bleed and leave behind a painful ulcer.

Diagnosis
Thrush is usually diagnosed by the pattern of symptoms and no culture or testing is typically required. Thrush is usually treated with a prescription medicine called Nystatin which is given four times a day.

this is called thrush- Thrush is the term we use to describe an overgrowth of yeast in a baby's mouth. This yeast, called candida, normally lives within our mouth, intestines, and genital area. It thrives in moist, warm environments. Occasionally this yeast is allowed to overgrow so much it becomes visible as white patches.

Location – thrush is usually visible on the inside of the cheeks and lips, on the gums, and on the tongue. If present, it will usually spread to 3 or 4 of these places inside the mouth. A thin coating on the tongue only may simply be milk. However, a thick white coating on the tongue is probably thrush.
Does not come and go – thrush will usually hang around for weeks. Milk patches inside the cheeks and lips, on the other hand, will come and go with feedings. A milk coating on the tongue, however, can be more stubborn, often staying there for weeks as well.
Does not easily wipe off – use your finger and try to wipe away the white patch. If it comes off easily, it's probably milk. Thrush is harder to scrape away, and can even bleed slightly when removed.
Associated factors – if either baby or a breastfeeding mom has recently taken antibiotics, or your baby has a stubborn, raised, red diaper rash with outlying red spots (yeast diaper rash), then any suspicious white patches in baby's mouth are much more likely to be thrush.

Thrush is not passed from baby to baby. It is an overgrowth of your baby's own yeast.

No cause – there is usually no identifiable cause for thrush. It just happens.
Antibiotics – the normal bacteria that live in the mouth usually keep the yeast from overgrowing. They compete for space. Since antibiotics kills these normal bacteria, the yeast is allowed to overgrow unchecked.

thrush is not harmful. It is more of a nuisance than a medical problem. It can, however, irritate baby's mouth during feeding, and when severe, can be painful.

Just leave the milk there, Your baby will suck it off himself when he is making his normal sucking motions after his feed or when he is sleeping - It's not harmful at all, actually, I've never heard of anyone wiping it off.

If his toungue is completely white and doesn't come off easily when you do wipe it; it may be thrush, Have the doctor check at his next check up, Check the insides of his cheeks to see if they're the same. It's nothing to worry about unless he isn't feeding well.

You can give yor baby a small amount (a few sucks) of cooled boiled water if you like - But it can give them diarreah or make them feel full when they're actually hungry.

If it doesn't come off it is either thrush or plaque.

If it is thrush it can be treated with a dilute solution of vinegar (1part to 9 parts water) or grapefruit seed extract (10-20 drops per oz of DISTILLED water). Just put it on a cloth and wipe.

If it is plaque use a baby toothbrush and possible some pure hydrogen peroxide mixed 50/50 with water (or even 1part hydrogen peroxide to two parts water). PURE hydrogen peroxide not the kind with stabilizers.

Honey it is probably not milk but thrush which is a yesat infection in his mouth! Very common in babies as they put EVERTYTHING in their mouth. Call his dr. and tell them about it they will either have you come in or just call in the rx needed. They might want to see you if this is the first time. Also check his bottom area if he has red bumps it means the yeast is throughout his body and will most likely be treated both orally and topically for it! BOTH of my children had this all the time! To the point when i would call the dr. they would call in the rx will a couple refills so that i didn't have to call everytime it happened!

there is no need to wipe his tongue! and u can give ur baby water, u don't have to wait until he's 6 mos. don't give him the water out of the tap though, they have "baby" water at the grocery store or give him distilled water, like 2 ounces at a time, water is good for him!

All you have to do is buy the Gerber water at wal-mart and he can have maybe 2 ounces or less a day. My little girl was the same way and giving her a little bit of water everyday helped out so much. He also could have thrash. You might need to take him to the doctor.

its no big deal if he has milk left on his tounge, its not going to hurt him. - i've never heard of babies not aloud to have water until theyre 6 months? i can see maybe tap water, but bottled water is fine. [they make "nursery water" expecially for babies]

& if you've wiped it and it didnt go away it may be thrush it looks like like spots of milk, it can be on the tounge or all over the mouth. - try giving water and if it still doesnt go away, make sure to show it to your ped.

Water isn't going to hurt him, and milk on his tongue isn't going to kill him. If you don't want to give him water, then just keep wiping it.
