Since quarter grades factor into the semester, yes they mess up your grade. The semester grade is an average of the 2 quarters. Like if your a senior and applying to colleges, they see your semester grades. So say if you got an A in quarter 1 for Spanish and a B for quarter 2, your semester grade would likely be a B+

I can't say how your school does it, but in general, quarter grades will be converted to an equivalent of a semester grade, and all of your regular classes will go on the official transcript. If you have questions, go down to the office and ask them how it's done, rather than listening to the people roaming the halls.

Always get important information from a trustworthy source.

In my school we had 'midterms' that let us know how we were doing so we could improve before the end of the semester. Therefore, only the semester grade counted towards the GPA. If you're really concerned, talk to your school counselor.
