I will be performing Claudius in Will shakespeare's hamlet. I was wondering if you have any advice or tips for tackling this role.

I performed the role of Claudius and it was one of my favorites!
First and foremost you have to be 100% solid on all the lines. There can be no room for error with Shakespeare. He is known for his language and there will probably be folks in attemdance that will expect perfection on the lines.
Second, think of Claudius as constantly looking over his shoulder. He is King and may be constantly trying to prove himself in order to legitimize the fact that he killed the king in order to get where he is. This guilty conscience gets the best of him at the "play-within-a-play" scene

"speak the speech, I pray thee..... etc. Act III sc. 2.
He's the king. He wants to continue to be the king, after all he killed his brother to become king. That's all you need to know isn't it? Use your imagination and react to the stimuli of evey scene the way he would do. Your lines are both your reaction and your physical action. Just do what they say. Simple, like all acting.
