My aunt asked me to ask this question. She has an almost 18 month old that weighs 24 pounds. Is this a normal weight? He is very active and eats pretty well. He is not to tall (not sure how tall). She said she will see if the Dr is concerned at his next appt but was just curious what you thought.

According to the weight graphs from the CDC, he is at the 25th percentile for his age. If he were at the 50th percentile, he would weight about 26 pounds. What this means is that 25% of children 18 months old weigh less than he does and 75% of children his age weigh more. It would be good to have his height too to compare that with his weight. He is active. He eats a balanced diet. Sounds good to me.

An 18 month old boy that is 24 lbs. is between the 10 - 25th percentile. If he has been in this range since birth, I wouldn't be concerned. However, if he has been higher and has suddenly dropped, then there could be a problem. My 2 children are both totally different in that respect. My daughter is 2 1/2 and she is only 27 pounds. She has always been in the 10-25th percentile. She is destined to be a petite girl. My son is going to be 9 months soon and he is already 25 pounds. He is well over the 100th percentile, but I'm not concerned because he is also very tall and the doctor said he is destined to be a tall and stocky kid. So, every kid is different, even within the same family.

Yes , it is fine. Normally at a year old a baby may gain about 3 times the weight at birth. I don't know the birth weight . As long as the baby is healthy and active, I wouldn't worry.Because he is active, he will tend to be thinner, which is good. As far as height, how tall are the parent's or relatives? Just to be sure and allay any fears , tell her to ask the doctor at the next appointment. No need to worry at this point. Hope I helped allay any fears you may have.

The rule of thumb when my kids were little, was that they should double their weight in the first year. Now, since my firstborn was 10lbs 6oz, she should have been 21 lbs. on first birthday. It seems very okay for her to have gained an extra 3 lbs. in the next 6 months. So yeah, I think this is a fine weight. So long as he's active and not demanding to eat non-stop, he'll be fine.

Don't worry, my nephew is 12months and weighs 27 lbs. My daughter is 2 1/2 and weighs 25 lbs. My nephew's weight will come to a halt, I'm sure, b/c he will continue to become more active, as will your aunts child. Their weight comes to a standstill around 18mo - 2yr b/c they begin to walk and run around.

All depends on how tall he is but 24 lbs seems about right.

This is an insane question.
There is no way a random person on the web can answer such a specific question about an unseen "not too tall" child.

Sounds like a mostly average size for that age. He might be a little small but doesn't sound like he's sickly or anything!
