There is no pain with the umbilical cord. It rots off. The feeling is gone in it.,., how about gas, does he have that?......xx

No it shouldn't hurt when the cord falls off. Your baby is fussy for another reason. You should be dabbing an alcohol soaked Q-tip onto and around the cord to help it dry and fall off. It also helps clean up the bloody mess when you clean the area...with each diaper change. Do Not give baby a tub bath until about 3-5 days after the cord falls off to make sure it is well healed.
His crying is probably for another reason--needs to burp, has dirty or wet pants, is hungry, just wants to be held. is he crying all the time all day and night or just for a few hours? He could be experiencing Purple Cry when babies for no apparent reason cry for several hours each day. You as the parent need to do whatever you can for him--make sure he is safe, dry, fed, burped--and then walk with him to calm him during this cry time. It is not unusual but it is a bit nerve-wracking when you don't expect it. If you find yourself or the father of the baby getting too irritated with the baby, put him in a safe place--his bed--and leave him with someone else to watch him so you don't do something to hurt him. It has been reported that over 60% of child abuse happens when a baby suffers from Purple Cry.
My first baby had this. I only wish I had known what it was so I could have realized I wasn't a bad mother. My other 2 didn't have it. He would cry from 8-10PM each night and while it was happeneing I thought it would never end. Of course it did and we all lived through it. But it was tough!!!!!

It should not hurt. If it is red around the edges of the cord and hot to the touch it could be infected. Is the crying tied to the cord being touched? Normally it falls off with no problems. Check for yellow discharge around it also. That is a sign of infection.

It shouldn't hurt, it will falls by itself after about 10 days, make sure is all dry, the cord and all around it, if it is red around it, or have a white or yellow substance and smells bad is infected and you have to take the baby to the Doctor

It didn't appear to hurt with either of my children. FYI you shouldn't be giving motrin to a baby younger than 6 months old, only tylenol.

Here's a link that has dosages based on weight for tylenol (don't administer it until after the motrin has worn off).

put a few drops of alcohol on his belly button (make sure your hands are clean), it will help dry it off. is your baby running a fever? don't give the baby any medicine if you're not sure. it naturally falls off after a few of days. my son's fell off before he turned 2 weeks old and it wasn't dry yet. if the baby is running a fever you better take him to a doctor, babies under 3 months should be seen be a doctor.

It shouldn't hurt because it is dead that is why it is falling off. I would be careful giving him Motrin so young.
