It depends on what you mean by world peace. It is possible that at some point in the future all 'legally' recognised nations might be at peace with each other, but this dosn't really mean very much.
If you look at the term world peace in a more realistic way, it is completely impossible. Conflict and disagreement are an inevitable consequence of free will and as long as we are human, people will at times resolve these disagreements with violence. So at all times (as long as we remain here) somewhere in the world there will be fighting.

No it is not possible. Have you read a history book lately? There has always been conflict, and there will always be conflict. A better question might be what can we do to lessen the factors that create conflict. Unfortunately the only plausible answer is conflict itself. Hence we have the Global War on Terrorism. It was started by people of a different belief, but the United States, and any willing allies, will end it.

Violence is in the human design. The Universe was formed violently and maintains itself violently. When we get sick pathogens attack our bodies and anti pathogens are formed and attack the pathogens. Our entire existence is a violent one. Mankind cannot escape this reality. World peace will be achieved when mankind no longer walks the earth.

The prospects for world peace in terms of the geo political arena is equally unlikely. Europe may be at peace with itself, but its dreams of European superpower cannot be realized without the nasty business of superpower statecraft; Europeans realize this and have continually expressed their disapproval of using military force as an element of statecraft even if it means Europe never becoming a superpower. Asia, however, is a growing economic region of the world; richer economies historically mean bigger militaries. Asia is metastable though and heavily resembles Europe previous to world war one. In fact, if their is a world war three it will probably come from Asia. Russia will continue to grow weary of China's rising power as it fears China will attempt to take back its territorial possessions that Russia ceased from it after world war two.

Furthermore, the world relies heavily on middle east oil and will only grow more dependent on it. Power struggles for influence in the middle east also bring about prospects for wars between several different countries. In addition, the nations of the world are primarily imperial legacies in terms of their territorial reach and shape. They do not represent the various ethnic, historical, and religious ties people share with one another. It is likely there will be more wars in order to reunite people who feel divided from essential counterparts.

There will be no world peace. It's not just the Iraqi war either. There is conflict in various other places also. There is a Socialist regime setting up shop in Venezula as we speak. There are still warlords operating in Africa. There are STILL Nazi's in the world. The KKK still operates freely in America. The potential of a nuclear holocaust is still very very real. I would say that world peace is still in the far far far distant future, no matter how many of us individuals crave it.

There will be world peace when and only when Jesus returns, for the second time. First He will take his chosen into heaven.
Then a time of Tribulation will occur then, He will come and establish peace on earth.

As soon as we bomb Iran, then invade Pakistan, and take out the rest of the Islamic Fascists scattered around in remote mountainous caves, there will be World Peace.

Oh Yeah, and take out Hugo Chavez and Kim Mentally ill.
