I'm pregnat, and I don't know the gender of my baby yet. I want to buy the crib and after I find the gender I'm going to get sheets and stuff. So, I need to look for a nice crib. No more than $550 please and I don't care if it's one of those cribs that can be transformed to a toddler bed and then into a regular bed any crib will do and something that is multi-gender. Thanks a ton! (And please no eBay! I've had bad expierences with eBay.)

You might want to go looking for a crib at baby stores. I picked out a crib online. I read the reviews and like the features. Then when I was ready to order it, I found out it was recalled! My husband and I went to baby furniture stores and found the crib we loved. We didn't know that there are many different features. We chose our crib because of the drop gate feature. You really should shop around and see the cribs for yourself before you buy. We chose Baby's Dream Ocean Crib. I believe we paid $450.00 You can go to their website babysdream.com.

My only advice is to avoid the Graco Aspen, also sold under Simplicity Aspen at Wal-Mart. It is not meant to be taken down and put back up multiple times. We move a lot and this crib has not held up. Simplicity is good about sending replacement parts for free, but I often get the wrong part. It's not worth it. It was $130 bucks at Wal-mart (3 years ago) and I got what I paid for. It will not last through another baby.

I wish I had gotten a nice used crib from the second hand store. They sell newer models, some that have only been used for one baby! The used cribs in the places I have looked are so nice--heavy and sturdy. Oh well, live and learn.

It's great that you're buying the crib and mattress so early. The mattress especially will give off fumes that stink and are probably not healthy for a baby to breathe. By buying and unwrapping the mattress so early, you can lower your baby's exposure to these fumes. Just remember to unwrap everything as soon as you get it home so the whole off-gassing process can start.

I wouldn't spend that much on a crib there are sooo many other things to buy. I got mine at burlington coat factory in there baby section it was 209 and a 3 in 1. Cribn toddler bed and full. Good luck.

I don't have a suggestion for a crib- but for a crib NOT to get:
simplicity.

They have many, many recalls on them.

I would look for a cheap crib because you may not need it. Neither of our babies slept in a crib- they slept with us.

Do your research on the company before buying and stay away from simplicity.

Congrats to you and to your baby!

We got ours from the JC Penney catalog. Its solid wood and has held up very well. There are lots of different styles and coordinating dressers, changing tables, bookcases if you're interested in getting a matching set. Here's a link to their site, I think all their cribs fall under your price point:
