Make scrapbooks. You don't have to become addicted and go all out but you can incorporate into an inexpensive album, some paper and a paper trimmer photos (photography) a few words about the story behind the photos (storytelling) and leave a legacy for future generations. Or interview relatives, take their picture and type up their answers in a story format for a two page spread and bam! you got geneology added to the mix. All neatly covered in one album. Simple elegence is best.

Board games are fun if you have company. Puzzles. Painting ceramics- its pricey at first because you have to buy all of the paints and brushes- but once you have everything, all you need are the pieces you want to paint and some free time. Drawing- even if you aren't talented, I wasn't at first but I enjoyed doing it and now I can draw fairly well (people wouldn't turn away in disgust). Or you can do something random- like pick up a dvd on how to breakdance or kickbox- its fun and healthy. Hope this helps!

Video games, board games, learn to cook, clean the house (although it is not fun, it seems like a hobby), get hooked on reality shows, read a book, do research on the internet, etc..
