Can I press charges? What will likely happen to them? I'm the guy getting hit.

well, yes technically. but the varying degree depends. is it simple assault, aggrivated assault; assault with a weapon etc.
it depends. add more details?

Yes, it is assault, possibly aggravated assault depending on what you said to them. You better have witnesses or video to prove it otherwise the police will probably blow it off. You might even have to insist on pressing charges, the officier might not want to waste his time with a simple punch in the nose... If the officier takes it seriously he will take the person downtown and book them. They will have to go before a judge for arraignment, and probably be released on OR especially if they have no prior record. They will then have to appear at a trial if they plead not guilty. A fine or possibly probation for a first offense.

if hit, it is called battery

assault is threats, etc. like shaking a fist in your face or brandishing a weapon

yes, you can press charges but it helps if there is a witness that saw what happened and can explain what they saw

otherwise it can become "your word against theirs" as far as what was said and so forth

you can also sue for damages in a civil suit; if there were damages

Ya, you can press charges, this happened to my friends parents(they're divorced), my friends dad hit his mom, and she is charging him with assault.
