It depends on what kind of plan you have, but on my plan if you don't purchase the additional text messaging plan, it is $0.25 to send a text message and $0.25 to receive a text message.

I used to have Verizon... if you have Verizon, you get Unlimited texts to other verizon users. its not Free.. but you arent limited to how many.
you can get a $0 plan in which you pay 15 cents for each message sent.
you can ge teh t$10 plan which includes 500 texts, 10 cents after that, and its unlimited to verizon users
a $15 plan.. for 1500 messages.. other rates are the same at $10...
and a $20 plan with 5000 texts.

No , i am so srry and it depends on how long your buying the texting for ... i know because i used to have Verizon but then i switched to At&t this month because Verizon is not good and At&t is way better. BTW let's say if your friend didn't buy text messaging and you did and you just suddenly texted her it will cost HER money so i don't suggest you text message.

no, it is not free. It depends what kind of plan you have. If your plan includes texting, its free. Or, you can pay like $5/a month for unlimited texting or a certain amount of texts. If you just send them without any special deal, its prob around 10cents a text. To know for sure, sign into your account at the verizon website.
