San Antonio is not a place which is generally one of the hotter places in the US. Places in Arizona and the desert areas of the US have much hotter temperatures. The average high temperature in July the hottest month of the year in San Antonio is 94-95 degrees and the average low in January the coldest month of the year is 38-39 degrees. But most of the year the temps in the afternoons are between 60 and 85 degrees.

San Antonio is a very old city being founded in 1718 and a very large city (7th largest in US). There will always be trashy areas if you put age and large city together. There has been significant renewal of the Downdown and Southtown areas. As the need for more hotels and buildings increases, there will be renewal or destruction and rebuilding. It is inevitable. The more rapidly growing areas currently are the Northwest between Sea World and I-10 the North Central Areas bewteen I-10 and just east of 281 and the North east parts of the city and the surrounding communities. The 281 corridor area near loop 1604 has grown 866% since 1990. There has also been a lot of new growth to the south parts of the city and new developments and businesses (including a new Toyota Plant) have been built there recently.

Significant growth has been seen to the San Antonio/ Austin entertainment cooridor, and the Texas Hill Country.

The San Antonio/Austin area is one of the fastest growing areas in the country. There is a significant job market, housing is plentiful but housing is still very affordable, with the average home in San Antonio costing between $100,000-$160,000 with the largest number of these houses (65%) being 2-3 bedroom homes.

Additionaly, San Antonio is a very friendly city, and festivals can be found in the area almost every weekend for entertainment.

ALL cities everywhere have a trashy area. San Antonio has a really nice area in the Northwest part of town going toward Kerrville. San Antonio/Austin area has a lot to offer in culture and entertainment. It would be a great area to move to.

It's not that hot. It's only trashy in certain places - difficult to describe. I'd have to say that the areas around DeZavala Road and The Rim are the nicest. The closer you get to downtown San Antonio, the more congested it is. Trashy is no longer an issue...just bumper to bumper people!

The great thing about San Antonio and the hill country area of Texas is you get to actually experience four seasons...not just hot and cold...as you would in north Texas.

I lived there for a year after high school. Certain parts are trashy, but not the whole city. Look into the Castle Hills, or Shavano Park areas. Those are nice.

I just moved from SA to Lubbock and I hate it here!!. I miss S.A so much! Of course there are some parts of SA that are super ghetto like the Glen and all of the Eastside. There is literally someone selling crack on every corner like in the movies! But thats pretty much it, Stay on the North- Northwest Side

It depends on where you live. I used to call it "thirty small towns in search of a city" back in the 80s. People know S.A. by it's subdivisions and neighborhoods. The north side (up 281, north of 410) is nice.

Its a great place to live. People are very friendly, many things to do. Like any city our size some areas are better than others. But overall we have a great city with a lot to offer newcomers. Come and visit and you will not be disappointed.

all tax dollars go to making the place nice for tourists. the rest of the city (except the northside where the powers that be live) is a dump. also, there's no money in SA. so either you work for toyota for ($17.00 an hour, which they think is good pay in san antonio) or you entertain, clean up after, or serve tourists. most people who live there can't afford most of the things there are to do there (which is by design)

san antonio is an extremely trashy city, so much so that the local government has taken to radio ads pleading with the citizens to cut down on litter. the housing is abundant and cheap, mostly because it was built cheaply and the quality is a strong reflection of this. it is rather easy to find a job here for the most part but that depends on your field. if you have licensing and experience in the medical field you will be fine, however if you are into IT and technology austin is a better bet. might i add the crime rate is also through the roof and noone i repeat NOONE in the city of san antonio knows what blinkers or merging are. noone here can drive. i would proceed very very cautiously if you are planning to move here.
