carat (ct) pertains to the size of the stone. (weight)
read at least the first two paragraphs of the link, it might help.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemstone
finally the cost depends on the gem. some are worth more than others. my birthstone is garnet and it is not a real expensive gem at all. some of the cost of a ring is determined by the setting, (silver, gold, platinum)

A gemstone is a piece of mineral or rock which is used in jewelry. Therefore a diamond is a gemstone. A cubic zirconia is a lab-created (man-made) diamond (therefore also a gemstone). So to answer your main question, no, not all gemstones are cubic zirconias. And a lot of jewelry may specify the carat weight (CT), but it's mostly seen on diamonds (or lab-created diamonds). A lot of factors determine how much a gemstone is worth - carat weight and rarity probably being the most important. Other factors include cut, color, and clarity.

CT is the total carat weight. I think you are thoroughly confused. Almost any gem is measured in carats. You can't assume a stones worth by it's weight alone, there are MANY other factors to consider. Diamonds are not crystals, crystals are their own stone and can be natural or created. Cubic zirconia is a lab-created/man made stone, and it is not a diamond, just a diamond replica.

Cubic zirconia (CZ) is the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2). The synthesized material is hard, optically flawless and usually colorless, but may be made in a variety of different colors. However, a gemstone or gem is a piece of mineral crystal, which is cut and polished form.

Ct stand for Carat. CZ is cubic Zirconia.
CT would be used with real diamonds normally but could be used for cz as a descritpion of the size of the cz stone. CZ is a manufactured item, not natural.
