I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and I cannot remove the key from the ignition. I can turn the car off and use my fob to lock and unlock the car. But I don't like the fact that the key is visible to anyone who might glance in. Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

The ignition lock assembly has either a solenoid or a cable running to it from the shifter assembly that only allows you to rotate the key all the way back to off when the shifter is in park. I assume that is what is happening. You will have to open the steering column and access the solenoid on it or the cable to see if it is just an adjustment or if you have a shifter switch, solenoid or wiring problem. These are ignorant to diagnose, so if you're not sure I would take it in. Most of the time it was a switch problem on the shifter.

If the igntion is in the colum you could remove the bottom shrouding and turn the ignition put the car in reverse rotate to start.
Then on the back of the ignition theres a retainer to push in then the ignition will pull out if the key pulls out once out of the housing then you know its probably something with the interlock cable. if the ignition is in the dash you would be better taking it to the dealer.

Either way its probably something with the cable that runs to the shifter. might also try spraying down the cylinder.

My neighbor has a toyota that I drove to the store and The key wouldn't come out. Turns out there was a release button underside of the steering wheel that had to be pushed.
