Evolution is *both* a theory and a fact.
It is a *fact* that creatures have changed over time. It is a fact that we find in the fossil record creatures that no longer exist today, and we don't find modern creatures. It is a fact that all creatures that exist today share a common ancestor.
The *theory* of evolution aims to explain these facts. Unlike the way we commonly use the word 'theory', in science a theory and a fact aren't different levels of certainty. A theory is a framework that explains evidence, and that's what the theory of evolution does.
A theory can never be proved - proof, as they say, is for maths and alcohol - but it can be consistent with the evidence, and again that's what the theory of evolution is. Despite the misconceptions you can see in some of these answers, we have never found any evidence that is contrary to the theory of evolution - *all* the evidence that we find is consistent with it. That's why scientists regard the theory of evolution as one of the best-supported theories in all of science.

There never has been a theory exempt from the need for modification in the light of new evidence, and thre probably never will be one. Occasionally they have to be abandoned altogether and a new one substituted. Novertheless, evolution is the best theory available at the moment.
The question creationists have to answer is whether they really believe that a hand came down out of the sky to plant the first man an woman on earth. If not, there must have been a physical process involved and, although there is no convincing accout of abio genesis as yet, that is where science comes in.

Just because some people keep yelling that molecules-to-man evolution is a fact, that doesn't mean it is.
As T. Wallace has said, “A major reason why evolutionist arguments can sound so persuasive is because they often combine assertive dogma with intimidating, dismissive ridicule towards anyone who dares to disagree with them. Evolutionists wrongly believe that their views are validated by persuasive presentations invoking scientific terminology and allusions to a presumed monopoly of scientific knowledge and understanding on their part. But they haven’t come close to demonstrating evolutionism to be more than an ever-changing theory with a highly questionable and unscientific basis. (The situation isn’t helped by poor science education generally. Even advanced college biology students often understand little more than the dogma of evolutionary theory, and few have the time [or the guts] to question its scientific validity.)”
And as Dr. Michael Houts said, “This illustrates another key (non-scientific) feature of the theory of evolution. The theory is constructed in such a way that no matter what the evidence, evolutionists can claim it supports their religion. If a bird is brightly colored, it evolved vivid feathers to attract a mate. If a bird’s plumage is drab, it evolved that drabness to provide camouflage. If similar structures are derived from similar gene sequences, it is because the two species share a common ancestor. If similar structures occur in species that are genetically quite different, it is because of 'convergent evolution.' No matter what the evidence, in the eye of the believer, evolution is true.
One criterion for determining if a theory is scientific is if it is falsifiable. In other words, the theory must be constructed in a way that an experiment could be devised to prove it false. In the discussion of similarities between organisms, the theory of evolution is purposely constructed so that no experiment can prove it false."
As Dr. Jonathan Sarfati says, we need to quit calling evolution a theory; that is giving it too much credit. “Goo to you” evolution is an unsubstantiated hypothesis or conjecture, not a theory.
Swedish biologist Soren Lovtrup made an interesting statement: “I suppose that nobody will deny that it is a great misfortune if an entire branch of science becomes addicted to a false theory. But this is what has happened in biology...I believe that one day the Darwinian myth will be ranked the greatest deceit in the history of science. When this happens, many people will pose the question: How did this ever happen?”
The real "facts" fit just fine within a creationist worldview.

I'm glad that you doubt the truth of what someone has told you.
I was told at school that scientists are pretty much agreed it's impossible to turn a theory into a fact. Though a lot of scientists' time and effort is commited to trying to disprove theories, to see if they can stand up to one test after another, no test can ever prove a theory true.
If we read just one book and believe it completely we will make good creationists.
If we read all the books we can get and refuse to believe any of them until we have tested for ourselves what they say, we will make good scientists.
The person who told you that evolution was scientific fact is not a good scientist. Our future depends on good scientists doing their job of smashing the crumbling untruths away from under our feet. What is left may not always be solid rock but I'd stil rather gamble my future on a tested theory than any mythical creation tale.

>on condition that evolution won't be able to be mentioned or examined it won't be able to be considered a fact Evolution could be examined and has been examined many times. It has surpassed each and every try with flying colours. each time a clean species has its genome analyzed, there is skill for evolution to be falsified. each time a clean fossil is discovered, there is skill for evolution to be falsified. yet, evolution stands organization. >despite if that elephant will constantly be an elephant this is a declare. are you able to back it up? are you able to furnish any clarification or mechanism that could desire to chop back a species from changing too lots? no one else has ever been in a position to. there is this strange assumption that species can no longer exchange previous a undeniable factor, yet no one has ever been in a position to describe why or how that could desire to paintings. Evolution is a fact. manage it. Or, a minimum of, arise with a greater advantageous critique. in step with hazard quite analyzing the project could help. EDIT: >lukas i don't understand the thank you to evaluate it a fact whilst it cant be mentioned or examined. bypass up and examine the 1st section. Evolution has been examined. diverse circumstances. For over a century. this is being examined on a daily basis in labs international. Ignoring that fact does not mae it bypass away. It merely makes you look stupid. whilst DNA grew to become into discovered, there grew to become right into a very actual skill that evolution could desire to be thrown out. It unfolded an entire new part of learn. It wasn't a on condition that it may help evolution. shall we've found out that it grew to become into all incorrect. despite if, the DNA evidence grew to become out to help evolution. truthfully, it supported it so superbly that this is now between the main efficient products of evidence for evolution.

Actually most christians agree with microevolution just not macroevolution; and as much as you may think fossils provide strong evidence for evolution they also provide strong evidence against it, no one has found a legitimate organic link in fossils to suggest development from one species to another and while evolutionists argue that over a period of 100 million years invertebrates evolved into vertebrates, not one transitional from has ever been found. Another thing is that if we look at the blood clotting system, there is no way it could have developed gradually over millions of years as all the creatures concerned would have bled to death before the system was ever perfected!
Please i just ask that before you go dissing chritians and the creationist view, you should think outside the box. I think you forget that the God we believe in is Infinite, he is able to do anything, including create a universe and its inhabitants. and while it is the THEORY of evolution it is not the THEORY of the Holy Bible.

It is actually theory based on observation and study. The theory of evolution is evolving itself. We will never know exactly how we became us, but the free exchange of ideas that science offers us is far superior to the myth that we sprang to life fully formed 6 - 7 thousand years ago. For a very long time it was forbidden to question creationism, it has never been forbidden to question evolution. If we are to continue to grow, we must keep questioning.

Nobody asserts that the theory of evolution is a fact. On the other hand many prosecutions are successful because of forensic evidence and the verdict is guilty beyond reasonable doubt.Religion must remain dumb on this question as it simply asserts truth lacking evidence or proof and calls it faith.
kiggidyk,ed vader, lilmrsch,KH, Ava, arklatex et al puleasseee!! do yourself a favour- your ill-spelled illiterate drivel and misunderstanding expose you as complete laughing stocks!..are you american perchance?..thought so!
To quote a howler..arklatex 'the earth's spin is decreasing at a rate of 1sec per year'..the actual current measured rate using caesium clocks is in fact less than 1.7 milliseconds per century. The reason monkeys and apes exist is the same as why we have worms, shellfish, sponges and other primitive lifeforms- they have found their ecological niche and any small mutations would be unfavourable.
These people contradict the very idea of intelligent design by their remarks. I sincerely hope that they do not breed and consider euthanasia as a viable alternative to their miserable existence!

Evolution is completely associated with science 100%. For those that believe that a spirit (god etc.) created earth and all of the inhabitants, i feel sorry for you. Put down the bible and try and watch a documentary on an aspect on science and stop sheltering your self. Learn about natual selection, Darwin, allels, gene pools, genetic drift, divergent evolution. Learn about the micro- organisms and protists that first existed on earth which EVOLVED. Humans are related to apes, we are part of the same Homo___ family. Open your eyes, don't follow.

It -isn't- fact, it's theory. Facts are observable, provable things. Theories are the frameworks we fit facts into to help explain them. I believe in evolution, I trust it as a theory, but I don't think you can call it 'fact'.
