OK I keep my car outside but am in need of fast starts in the morning. Winter here hovers around 0-10F but we have nights of -30F with -50F wind chills.
What motor oil should I use in my hihg mileage vehicle (98000mi)?

5W30 or 10W30?

Should I use
100% synthetic
50/50 synthetic blend or
100% dino

I am changing it myself tomrrow so any answers are appreciated.

how bad a car is it ? is it burning oil ?perhaps you should talk to an expert on synthetic oil.
for my money however make sure your battery is top notch otherwise you get nowhere in a hurry.
I had older cars before and never had any problems in 35 below. if your battery is more than 3 years old buy a new big one with more cranking Amps.Never mind the oil, at 35 below and parked outside all night it get's to be like honey anyway

they're all good oils, the difference between 5w30 and 10w30 is minimal,I personally prefer the 10w30. And about the kind, well synthetic is best but it's not miraculous either

1st do NOT change brand or type of oil that has been in the vehicle to date.

Windchill is irrelevant in this case.

Use 5W30, or even 0W30 if it is available in the brand and type of oil you have been using. With the xW30, you can use it year round with no issues.

Do what human beings do interior the Arctic climates-shop a one hundred watt easy bulb lit under the engine and shop a cover over the front of your vehicle (tarp). 5W-30 will nevertheless be thick. man made would be tar.
