I plastered in Rhode Island for about 5 years several years ago. I know on extremely hot days or for that matter on extremely cold days my boss would usually call off work for the day. On the few occations I did plaster during very hot and humid weather it took a long time to dry. I had to go over it several times causing it to "dimple" I believe was the word we used to use. Anyway I was asked this question by a friend who is building houses in NC. He is also originally from RI. He wanted me to plaster his houses but I have never seen any houses here plastered and was just wondering why.

I didn't answer a previous Q, but have some opinions worth perhaps two cents.

No offense to you at all; and while I realize PLASTER is a cyclical thing, in a trend sort of way; I certainly would never take a Plastering job. For one thing it's labor intensive. Decent job might be out of the price range of many clients. It's messy, and time consuming. Certainly environmental issues can affect a job as well.

Given that Drywall painted is a widely used; industry standard; is likely why Plastering is much more a specialized trade practice.

The dimpling may have been caused by humidity; but too might be caused by the AGITATION of the plaster before application.

If it happens that a customer wants a "rough" plaster effect; similar to stucco; I offer Fiberglass based material.

On a light hearted note; I live in Florida; I just never think of RI as EVER being too HOT. :)
