Coming some time this Christmas is a new movie called The Golden Compass. It is a children's movie written after a series of books. The writer of the movie and books is an Atheist and at the end of this movie it shows children killing God.Do u think that children should watch this movie?I think this is utterly horrible. If you agree with me then u should contact your local theaters and tell them that u wish not to have this at the movies. If people wont pay money to watch this... the movie will not be played. Please stop this from happening,.

also, this movie is so subtle the children arent even aware of the message but it will brainwash them... the writer is very evil and he despises C.S. Lewis and the chronicles of narnia, he is tryin to show the other side of it. please go to snopes.com and type in the golden compass to check out more info on it and aware everyone u know about it!

i apologize to all of u who think im tryin to keep u from watching anything. i am just trying to warn those with children who dont want them to receive this hideous message. like i said the message is so subtle in the books that the people r not aware of how bad this is and dont realize what they are takin their kids to see.

Hello:
For starters hiding something from a child's perception does not make the thing not exist, it just makes sure they are ignorant of it and it is not often that ideas as big as atheism stays a secret forever. OK?
So we can both agree that all children that reach adolescence will at some point encounter the idea of there being not god either through their own thoughts or something outside of themselves yes? Wouldn't it be better to have then see it in film, or discuss it in some way shape or form so that they are exposed to the idea and a parent that believes and would like to raise them in a religions fashion can explain to them why this is not a real idea and it is fantasy. If this idea is so scary to you then perhaps your faith is not as strong as you might want it to be. There is nothing wrong with doubt and in the end if you can doubt and then come to the rational decision that you are correct then isn't your faith stronger for the realization?
Yes I think children should watch this or any other children's movie. Do you think that after watching The Rats on NIMH I though there were societies of rats? do you think when I watched transformers I thought that giant robots were real? I think children should be exposed to different ideas so that they can learn to reason and think for themselves so that they can avoid getting caught up in propaganda and hysteria that an idea as big as God can be threatened by a movie.
if you are concerned with what your children are watching...SPEND MORE TIME WITH YOUR CHILDREN. If you are concerned what your children are thinking...TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN.
Now to be honest I have not seen anything about this movie not have I read the book, but I think it quite likely that anything truly anti-religious (epically during the x-mas season) would be toned down due to the oversensitivity of the public. Even if it is a depraved depiction of the death of the Christian God...I would be ok with it being made into a childrens movie. And if you find it offensive (and I ask you how much you have looked into the book series...have you read them hysterical mother?) then by all means do not go, urge others not to.
However I am willing to bet you have not touched any of the books with your hands and that most if not everything you have read about the movie has been from one very specific point of view.
This kinda makes you as bad as the movie...if not worse because the movie isn't urging people to go or not to go, its just advertising that its out there while religious nuts are overacting because they have too much time on their hands because evil is eliminated from the world and they don't have any good that need doing...
oh wait.
How about you get a little less self righteous and more Christ like (remeber all the let s/he with out sin cast the first stone?)
I hope you took this well

Wehter you, or I, or anyone else thinks this sort of thing is wrong is totally irrelevant.
In the United States, we have certain rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Two of these rights are the freedom of speech and the freedom of religion.
Freedom of speech means you have the right to voice your opinion or ideas, regardless of how wrong or immoral they might seem to others.
Freedom of religion is the freedom from religious persecution. Attempting to force your beliefs on anyone is a form of religious persecution.
If you don't like the idea of this movie, or the rumor you may have heard about its conclusion, then simply don't see it. Neither you, nor anyone else, has any right to dictate to another person (with the exception of your children) what they will or will not be allowed to see, read, or hear, especially when based solely upon your religious convictions, your morals, and what you choose not to be exposed to. That's known as censorship.
It's just one of those things that makes The United States a fine place to live.

Why can no-one watch a movie when a person or a group of people do not like the movie. That's called censorship.
I do agree that if you do not want to watch the movie or you do not want your children to watch the movie you have every right in the world to not watch the movie. You also have the right to voice your opinions about the movie, but you have no right to keep anyone else from watching the movie.

Tell you what read some of the old testament. Abraham being commanded by God to murder his youngest son, although God did relent at the last minute. Would you send plagues of locusts to devour food for starving children. The list of genocidal violence in the bible (note the small b) makes The Silence of The Lambs seem like a fairy story. Islam is just as bad. I think that this film MUST be shown before another generation falls into the trap of not thinking for themselves!

ok im srry if im offending you but im a christian and i have read this book and the rest of this series. i love it. and i think that if you dont like what they are showing then dont go see it! there are some people (including myself) that really want to see this movie. people have freedom of speech and religion so if your religion says that you cant go see a movie fine by me but other people want to see this. and the producers have the freedom to play this movie. so im just saying that if you dont like what they are portraying then dont watch it. and i doubt it that they will not play the movie after spending millions to film it. and they dont fight God till the last book... and i dont even think they kill him! and as for your additional details do you really think that philip pulman hates C.S. lewis. just because you read that on one site doesnt mean that it is true. maybe you should do a little more research before jumping to conclusions. try reading the book next time. maybe you would have know that they do not kill god and they actually discuss original sin a lot and made me have a better understanding about it.

While I agree that children killing God probably isn't suitable for children to watch, you lose me when you suggest contacting theaters in order to have the movie practically banned.
Censorship isn't the way to deal with things that displease you, and those who don't want to see such content don't have to see it. Nobody will ever put a gun to your head and make you watch the movie. I don't believe that you should have the right to decide for me what I want can or cannot see in the theater.

I have only read the first book and I really liked it, and was planning on seeing the movie. But if this is true about the children killing God, I'm not going to see the movie and I completely agree with you. Good For You, standing up for what you believe in!!!

Well, children killing anything isn't good but that's all up to the parents. I don't think that's okay, even as an avid Atheist myself. I'm not gonna lobby against it though. People are aloud to go to movies and watch what they want, that decision is not up to you or I to make for other people.
And by the way, someone is not AN Atheist, they are Atheist.

i disagree, because it is based on each indiviual beliefs if all children viewing the movie i personally would not let a child of mine veiw it but then again thats because of my beliefs towards god. Maybe the movie has some kind of point but if it is too bad then just dont let the kids view it

It depends on the person watching it, i suppose.
Some people wouldn't be affected by it and others would be. It all depends on their beliefs (this goes for both adults and children alike). I guess it's a person's own decision if they want to watch material like that or not (or the child's parent(s) in this case).
