New England describes the region, not a particular city or state.

It is a GROUP of States. From North of New York, up to and including Maine. Now the team is in Foxboro, Mass.

If you are taking about the New England Patriots, their home city is Boston, Massachusetts. "New England" doesn't refer to a city, it's just what the team is called.

for a while, i thought new england was in england, but it is in mass. it is not a dumb question. a lot of people think new mexico is in mexico.
