If these are galvanized gutters the best thing is to solder them. They did it this way in the old days and they usually rusted out before they leaked at the joints.

If they are the newer painted steel or aluminum you will want to use a butyl caulk or a moisture cure urethane caulk. Most construction supply houses will have these type of sealants. The devil is in the details with these sealants. You need to clean all the old sealant/paint/dirt in order for the new sealant to stick properly.

I've been trying to stop a leak in a gutter for years with no success until I used some mobile home roof sealant/coating. It is white, dries slightly "rubbery" and is about the consistency of thick paint. Sorry, I don't remember the brand name but it can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes

Clean the joints, inside the gutter, carefully removing all loose material. If the gutters are badly bent or damaged, you are going to have to replace at least some of the gutters.

At your home store (home depot) in the gutter sections, there is a special caulking for gutters. This works fairly well if the gutters themselves are pitched correctly and aren't bent out of shape.

I've had this problem for about 8 years at one of my seams. I tried caulk and a few other products but eventually they all leaked. finally i purchased a can of this stuff called rescue 911 from home improvements catalog so far 2 years and no leak I would definitely buy again. even if this leaks in the future all i did was take a hair dryer and dry the seam and then sprayed this stuff on it took all of 5 minutes.try this.......http://www.improvementscatalog.com/home.do

Protecto -Tek It is roof and gutter tape. $20.00 -$30.00 a roll and it may be a special order. It's looks alot like duct tape. And you still have to clean out all the old tar, caulk or whatever is sealing them now before you tape over the seams.

try small jointing compound you will need to clean out all other sealants though. This stuff can be thinned with kerosene (i think) but goes in like water aluminium joiners used to use it to seal up the joints. They should know what it is .use an oil can for application
