I am really sorry but that is not your first row . What you have there is your cast on stitches. What you do when you start your pattern will be your first row. Love the color and what are your making.

looks like thats a knit stitch.

try to wrap the yarn around your needle clockwise for a knit stitch, then for a purl stitch, wrap the yarn around your needle counterclockwise.
