I was 18, got an apartment across town . Wasn't bad at all. Got lonely at night when friends couldn't hang out, so I got a roommate, but roommates can suck. You may be friends with someone, but hate their living habits. Also, for the first few months don't buy anything unless you absolutely have to. Let's say your used to by a coffee in the morning, or a corndog at the mall all the time, well stop buying that stuff. Pretend you have no money so you can see how much it really cost to live on your own and calculate your expenses and make a budget. If not you may come up short handed when the bills are due. Going to bed when you want, and going out when you want is awesome, but don't waste your gas. Having boys over whenever was great too. Save money for emergencies, like a flat tire, or the furnace goes out, stuff that's not expected. As a girl, I didn't like being by myself cuz I was afraid of rapists, robbers, and bugs. I need a man to kill a spider. If you grew up spoiled then you are going to be overwhelmed with responsibilities.

Oh, this is a good question. I was 18 like many others out there. However I moved from my parents house in with my boyfriend who later I married. It was not that great. The first month of being free to roam, do as you please, and have fun ends quickly when you have to do your own dishes, clean your own house, and pay all the bills.
Personally I wouldn't change it all now, but I wish I had done some things differently. Now at 25 I wish I could move back in with my parents. Life was easier even though I didn't realize it at the time. I wouldn't change it however because I think everyone should have to get that first apartment that has shag carpet from the 70's, no furniture other than stolen road cones, and nothing in the fridge but mayo and butter. It didn't hurt me any either to live off of mac & cheese for a while.
If you are thinking about moving out then really think about it. Even though parents complain and nag at least they have to deal with the huge stress of paying bills and cooking dinner.

Seventeen. Graduated high school in May. Got in my car and drove to Virginia in June. What was it like? It was fun, exciting, certainly never dull. Didn't have enough sense to be afraid or worried or anything else. Just went full tilt and never looked back. Worked my way through college, spent a year out of the country, came back, met a man, had two great kids, and became a regular human being. If I had it to do over again, I would put off the human being part a little longer.

I was 19, head strong, a student and worker, ready to take on the world.
At first I was very nervous, but I quickly realised that while the rent and expenses were othen hard and stifelling, it was worth while. I quickly grew into an adult who was both in charge of and responsible for my own life.

I got married the day after I graduated highschool. I was 17 and my Mother had to sign the papers down at the courthouse. We were all wearing black. Looked like we was going to a funeral...jeeze....
I was happy to finally be free of my parents, but scared to death at the prospect of becoming one. (I was pregnant at the time)
I was very lucky. That was almost 30 years ago and I am still with the same man married. My Father hated him and disowned me for marrying him, but now he respects him.
We have a good life together.
