Swelling is a sure sign of a broken bone, it is the build up of lactic acid, my suggestion would be to go to the hospital and have it treated to reduce the chances of it setting into the incorrect position and causing any future problems.
As far as a blood clot is concerned, a broken finger wouldn't cause a serious clot so no need to worry too much, as a clot (in most cases) is mainly just blood that has no escape through the flesh and has nowhere else to go and becomes a bruise, !!!DO NOT PUNCTURE IT!!!
I once broke my 2 middle fingers (Phalanges) - (technical/medical term for fingers) which i didn't have treated for about 3 - 4 weeks i was experiencing pain and discomfort and i had a problem holding cups etc... I later went to hospital and my fingers had to be re-broken to realign the joints, they were bandaged and a splint was made from tongue depressors i was also placed on a course of antibiotics to aid with the swelling and to reduce the chances of any infection.
That was about 24 years ago and everything has been fine since, i was even able to complete my martial arts training including board and tile/block breaking techniques without any problems, all thanks to seeking the correct medical treatment.
I hope this has been helpful, good luck....
P.S. I don't care for best answer i just want to give the best advice....

R - Rest
I - Ice, 20m on 20m off
C - Compression, tape losely
E - Elevation, above your heart

RICE is good for any sports injury.

No blood clot problems. If it's not substantially better in 3 days, or gets worse, see a dr.

If you can bend it an straighten it the tendons are OK.... it may be broken but if its straight, looks and moves like normal, give it a couple of days, if no better see your GP
