There are lots of good brands out there, it really depends on your preferences.

Burton makes good gear, but they are not the only good brand out there. It is they biggest, but not hands down the best.

Generally only people who are not that into snowboarding say that they only ride Burton, unless they are sponsored by them.

Burton is my favorite for girl's boots. They have put a lot of money into developing their women's line of boots.

For clothes, most major brands are good. Just make sure you get a good waterproof rating. Volcom, Sessions, Burton, even Roxy has started making some good gear.

For gloves, I usually either go with Burton or Dakine.

For boards, it really depends on how you ride. Burton is good, but overpriced. If you are still beginner to early intermediate, you could try a Roxy board. If you are more advanced, I would stay away from Roxy, and look at other brands such as Forum and Gnu.

Transworld rates boards every year in their "good wood test"
Check it out, they have a women specific good wood test.

It really depends on what type of riding you're going to do then you can determine from there what type of board to go for. I've been told to stay away from morrow and lamar...

Most brands are pretty good. Go with boots that are comfortable and above all don't make hasty decisions when choosing your gear because it will suck once you're on the mountain and your gear is mighty uncomfortable.
