My thoughts and prayers are with you, and just know that I am always here for support.

I suffered a loss once, and my sister put the words perfectly. Everyone else was just trying to justify things, or telling me how they experienced a loss too. It all just got on my nerves. My sister told me "I have no idea what you're going though... I just don't know what to say." We all lose someone at one point in our lives, but no one can feel the exact same things as the next. A close family member could die in my family, but each family member would experience it differently. Therefore, none of us would really know what the next is going through. Tell her that you don't know what she's going through, but that you will be there for her to help and support her through this horrible time.

How about a dried rose or flower? Or a picture of the two of them together if you think it will help and leave a supportive message inside.

Oh, a sympathy card!

One usually write something like "I am very sorry for your loss. My thoughts, prayers, and love are with you and the family.... Please take good care of yourself, and know that I am here for you if you need anything...."

Remember youth as you pass by,
As you was once, so once was I,
As I am now, you soon will be,
Prepare to die and follow me.

Always remember this: If you don't attend the funerals of your friends, they will certainly not attend yours.
(I admit thats a jokey one, and its very insensitive of me. >.<)

You have to have a darkness...for the dawn to come

Remember man, as you walk by,
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so shall you be.
Remember this and follow me.

(To follow you I'll not consent
Until I know which way you went)

Sorry for your loss. I'm thinking of you in this time of sadness and my heart goes out to you. I'm here for you.

If you're sending a sympathy card to someone who's not related to the deceased ... that's very weird. I'm not even sure it's appropriate.
