.....apathy?

I watched a documentary about his death today and someone who knew him well said that he may have died of heart failure but it was apathy that killed him.

And, before you start with the smart @rse stuff, he IS dead.He died on the loo of a drug overdose..........part way through his shift at Kirsty McColls' local chip shop.

But, back to being vaguely serious, what do you reckon about the original question?

I'm sorry to be a bit rude but, apart from Redd Headd and chris w, does anybody know what apathy means?

He definitley did die of a drug related overdose, so many of your answers are literally right. But, what causesd someone with such a seemingly brilliant life to be so sad and addicted is what I mean?

He died of having people around him that kissed his butt and let him self destuct, that is a factor in the celebrities falling apart publically like britney, who surround themselves with people that will not tell the truth except the way they want to hear it. It's like putting a gun to your head, and everybody looks the other way.

Limelight is not easy to live in, many extrovert performers are real introverts off stage and this can take it's toll on people.

Wait... Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977 in the bathroom of his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 42. He had been on the toilet, but fallen off onto the floor, where he lay in a pool of his own vomit. Panicked, his staff contacted an ambulance, which rushed him to nearby Baptist Memorial Hospital, where, after several attempts to revive him, he died at 3:30 pm CST. His autopsy was performed at 7:00 pm.
The official coroner's report lists "cardiac arrhythmia" as the cause of Presley's death, but this was later admitted to be a ruse entered into by the Presley family along with autopsy physicians Dr. Jerry T. Francisco, Dr. Eric Muirhead and Dr. Noel Florredo to cover up the real cause of death, a cocktail of ten prescribed drugs, taken in doses no doctor would prescribe:

The painkillers Morphine and Demerol.
Chloropheniramine, an antihistamine.
The tranquilizers Placidyl and Vailum.
Finally, four drugs were found in "significant" quantities: Codeine, an opiate, Ethinamate, largely prescribed at the time as a "sleeping pill," Quaaludes, and a barbituate, or depressant, that has never been identified.

It has also been rumored that Diazepam, Amytal, Nembutal, Carbrital, Sinutab, Elavil, Avental, and Valmid were found in his system at death.

The phrase "cardiac arrhythmia," in the context of the coroner's report, means little more than a stopped heart; the report initially tried to attribute the arrhythmia to cardiovascular disease, but Elvis' own personal physician has stated that Presley had no such chronic problems at the time. Most of Elvis' many health problems can and have been traced back to rampant abuse of prescription drugs.

Elvis had visited his dentist on August 15th to have a temporary crown put in; it has also been suggested that the codeine the dentist gave him that day resulted in an anaphylactic shock that assisted in his death. (He had suffered allergic reactions to the drug previously.)

He didn't. He had an allergic reaction to codeine

That's an excellent question... I believe the postmortem was performed by the preeminent Forensic Pathologist & Barrister Cyril Wecht, MD, JD... And this was a little befo' my time, but I'm pretty sure that the cause of death was determined to be coronary infarct or arrhythmia, but I beg your pardon, I'm not certain as to the manner of death.

Oh... for the second issue, about why he got sad and became addicted to drugs, well, most likely it was a lack of 5-HT in the central raphe nucleus which made him terribly sad, and the therapeutic medicines which are common place today were not around prior to 1984.

Elvis died of a heart attack induced by the uppers and downers his Dr. was prescribing. It was too much for his body to handle that final time. I remember well the day he died. A great talent was lost that day
