at first, its boring. it was hard to force myself to read through some of the chapters. but in the end, its worth it. im reading it now, in english 1 honors and at first i thought it was the worst thing in the world. then, in the end, there was so much action and insight about the world. it makes you look at life with a different view. its a really good book, if you can just get through the dull parts.

I had a hard time getting through the first several chapters, falling asleep every time I tried to read it, but I kept plugging away at it and it ended up being one of my favorite books. It gets really interesting later on. It's kind of like Peter Pan, in a way - a bunch of kids ruling over an island, without any parents or authority figures there. I hope it grows on ya! :)

I too found the book incredibly boring. But then most of the books I was forced to read for English back in school (with the major exception of most those for 10th grade English) I found incredibly boring as I did not care for being forced to read anything by my teachers. I didn't even care for being forced to read for a book report where I picked the book, but at least there I was more likely to find the book intresting.

I hated it the first time I read it (I think it was in like 6th grade). I thought it was a complete waste of time. Then when I was in 10th grade they made us go back and read it again and I actually found my self enjoying it. So I guess it can go either way. I agree with ^, just get it over with.

you kidding me its a wordy book but if you can get into the plot its a great read. they are called classics for a reason. kids on a desert island. no authority. death. so many cartoons, movies and other books copy this one. youll find you already know the story well.
