It's very easy if your machine is cleaned and ready to go. Sewing on a machine that hasn't had a yearly tune-up is an exercise in frustration.

It's best if you can take a class at your local adult ed, sewing store or if you can find a granny or someone just to help you get the machine going.

You can spend as little as 99 cents a yard for fabirc, and as much as... way more than that! I have some velvet that is $18.00 a yard but I am on the Jo-Ann fabircs mailing list so I get a coupon every couple of weeks for 45% off and I definitely use it!

Pillow forms, which is the filling and shape for the pillow, when you get them on sale, run about $4.00 per pillow.

Not especially, though it will be incredibly frustrating at times. If at all possible, I suggest that people take at least a basic sewing class hands on -- check with local fabric stores, sewing machine shops, community colleges, adult education. The interesting thing to me about sewing is that there's always another challenge if you want it -- and always an easy project that needs doing if you want something more relaxing. The hard parts of garment sewing for most people are fitting patterns, cutting correctly and accurately, and learning to choose a good interfacing for the project -- after they've learned basic machine skills. Almost always, beginners benefit from several lessons in pressing, also. Some suggestions for garment construction: Kwik Sew's books like Sewing for Children, which are basic patterns, instructions in how to sew, and design suggestions, all in one. Connie Crawford's beginner DVD, Studio Sewing Secrets. Crawford's book Guide to Fashion Sewing, which is a very step by step book for garment construction, written for first year design school students who discovered they had to learn to sew. Check with your local public library -- they have or can get virtually any sewing book or video out there -- it's either on the shelf or they can do interlibrary loan. Find some sources that make sense to you and work with them a bit.
