If there is no other way for you to keep or board you pony, then you might have to do this. You will not get paid, just discounted board. I suggest you to avoid it if possible. Here's some various reasons why:
1) If you take free board, your pony could be in lessons 6 days a week. No time for you to ride him
2) You take half board and he is used for lessons 3 times a week. You can ride him when you work around this school schedule, but you'll be like another lesson to him with little bonding.
3) School horses usually (not always) do not have a veyr happy life. They get ridden many hours a day by many people with many problems. Would you want this life to continue for your pony? Could you bear to see him yanked in the mouth and kicked by bad riders?
4) It takes a long time to bond with a horse, even more so when the horses has been used as a school horse or rental horse. You will have a difficult time doing so if you even share him with one person... let alone more. It's special to see your horse finally recognize you and perk his ears to say hello.
5) For financial or time reasons, many of us have to half or 1/3 lease our horses to one or two people. this is a much better option for your horse, and you, than as a school horse. 1/2 lease you share 1/2 the board, shoes, and vet bills with another person. You each get 3 days a week to ride and the horse gets a day off! You still own the your pony and he will have only 2 or 3 people of your own choosing to ride him!

GL, it's a hard decision

I am currently looking for someone to let me use their horse or pony in private lessons (6 lessons a week only and my lessons are either 30 minutes or 1 hour) for $100 off board each month. This is much less than most barns want in exchange for less board fees-at least near me anyway. I think you should defintely make sure that whatever you decide to be in writing and very specific. I would also make sure your horse is insured just in case it does get hurt. Hope this helps.

If your pony is capable of being a lesson pony, then im sure you could use it as one for money off of board of lessons. But it depends on if you want to use it in lessons, because i don't always recommend people using their horses as lesson horses, because then other kids are using it, and possibly if they are beginners they might "mess up" your horse. But I understand that horses are expensive, and some people need to have their horse as a lesson horse to be able to keep it!! Good Luck with your new pony!!!!!!

They should give you a cut on your board if you let them use your pony for lessons. But are you sure you want to do this? If your pony is good with beginners, how do you know they will be treating your pony well? Will they be rough on your pony? Over ride your pony?

I wouldn't do it myself. But I'm also old enough to work to support my horse. Good luck.

you could work out an agreement with this boarding facility to get a brake on board (ex. 15 lessons- $100 a month) they wouldn't pay you though. however i personally feel strongly against allowing others to use your horse because of liability. so if money is that tight do yourself and the horse a favor and don't get the horse. wait until you're old enough to work and can buy a horse that you won't out grow in a few years. sorry not what you wanted to hear but good luck i hope things work out for you.

Usually you don't get paid, but sometimes boarding/training facilities will trade board for use of your pony in lessons.

well, when you buy the horse you could ask if there was any way to get a break on board [they might want to write it into board contract], and possibly suggest using him in lessons. i doubt they will pay you but they will most likely take off part of your board.

usually they make your board cheaper if you let your horse/pony be used in the lesson program. but sometimes they pay you.

Some have strong feelings about such things,I do.I have always tended to keep personal mounts for myself and an all rounder for others to use.
But when needs must as in your case agree though have a yeah -But! clause if you can swing it.As for getting paid Im doubtful probably more a trade kind of situation.

Super way to ruin a pony. Green riders confusing him and yanking on his mouth. He'll learn every "horse trick" known to equine kind and happily share them with you.
