You need to give some more information about your tastes.
Do you like fantasy and/or sci-fi? The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien and The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis would be my suggestions. I haven't read them yet, but I keep hearing good things about Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. There's also the Inheritance Chronicles by Christopher Paolini and The Princess Bride or Ella Enchanted.
I'm not sure if it falls into fantasy or mystery or both, but I also would recommend Jasper Fford's very unique series of Thursday Next mysteries starting with The Eyre Affair. It includes Literary Detectives and fictional characters being kidnapped by real people and a lot of fun and interesting stuff.
Do you like classics? Anything by Jane Austen, especially Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, Vanity Fair by William Makepeace Thackeray, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens (or others of his like Our Mutual Friend or A Christmas Carol). There are MANY others I enjoy.
Do you like thrillers? I'd suggest you read Vince Flynn's novels starting with Term Limits. Frank Peretti's This Present Darkness or Piercing the Darkness or The Oath (among others) are excellent.
Do you like straight mystery? Anything by Agatha Christie is my suggestion...like And then There Were None or The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. I also really enjoyed Catherine Coulter's FBI mystery series starting with The Cove. Mary Higgins Clark's mysteries are generally enjoyable, too.
Do you enjoy romantic suspense? I'd suggest any books by Phyllis A. Whitney or Mary Stewart. They are excellent! Victoria Holt wrote some good ones, too. You may also enjoy books by Linda Howard (like Dream Man) or Nora Roberts (Hidden Riches).
Do you enjoy historical fiction with both romance and time travel? I'd suggest Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. You may also enjoy some of Susan Sizemore's novels or Constance O'Day-Flannery.
Do you like other romance novels/historical fiction? Mary Jo Putney has written some really enjoyable novels like her Fallen Angels series (Petals in the Storm, Thunder and Roses, Angel Rogue, Dancing on the Wind, River of Fire, Shattered Rainbows, One Perfect Rose). I loved that series. You may also enjoy some of Georgette Heyer's stories like The Nonesuch.
There are so many more, but it really depends on your tastes. I hope this helps.

It depends on what you're into, but Fahrenheit 451, The Crucible, The Scarlet Letter, Inherit the Wind, and maybe Farewell to Manzanar are definitely great choices. You might also check out Lord of the Flies or any award-winning series.
