Why is it Mother Nature and not Father Nature?

Just curious to everyone's opinion - I have my answer ready. Just for fun.

"Mother" is used figuratively to represent giving birth to all new life that occurs in nature, such as seeds becoming flowers in the spring, caterpillars becoming butterflies, eggs hatching into birds, bears having cubs, etc.

Mother is the nurturer - she literally gives birth to the child and feeds the child
