The amount of rain we got last month was 2 inches more than what we got this month. we got 3.5 inches last month. how would i write this in an equation

Let x = this month's rainfall
x = 3.5 - 2

x=3.5 +2

x = rain this month
x + 2 = rain last month = 3.5
x = 3.5 - 2 = 1.5
