If the mouse is mechanical (has a rubber or steel ball underneath), these need regular cleaning. Turn the mouse over and look for a circular plate that holds the ball in place--turn this so the ball can be removed. Inside you'll see a couple of rollers covered with ****. Use your mom's toothbrush (or a QTip) soaked in rubbing alcohol (not vodka), to clean off the rollers. Reassemble and your mouse should be feeling much better.
Yes, if it's battery powered, then its batteries might be low, but more often with lazer mice (red light on the bottom), it's the desk that's the issue. A shiny surface (glass or just glossy) confuses it and can make it stop working. Use a dull mouse pad (one with a picture of your least-favorite teacher)...

I had one like that it seemed like it had a mind of it's own I done the usual, change a setting and clicked on mouse I tried to make it go slower and faster only it didn't make a difference so I got a new one for £3.99 and have no problems at all.
click on control panel and then printers and other hardware click on mouse and then it's easy you move an arrow to how fast or slow, good luck it didn't work for me though.

Depends what sort you have. If there is a roll ball underneath, open the cover remove the ball and get a fine brush to clean the mechanism. Blow the loose dust out. If this doesn't do the trick I'm afraid you'll have to buy a new mouse.

Take out the ball at the bottom and clean out the fluff. Or just buy another 1, they are so cheap!

Clean it. Turn it up-side-down and take the ball out. Clean the little rollers with a cotton bud and clean the ball. DON'T USE WATER.
