Any book I have ever seen on bonds is at best semi techinical and confusing to the average person. Try talking to me lets see how far we get. I would be more than happy to help you

First research the Wall Street Journal and find out about facts in bonds.
Check your local bookstore or library and check out The Fundamentals of Municipal Bonds written by The Bond Market Association.

Its not a book, but Morningstar.com has a good (and free) bond tutorial.
