If you haven't had sex yet and you don't do any drugs or work a lot in some area where they deal with syringes then I wouldn't worry, pal.

well, there is being safe and overly safe. You are only 14, so I assume you are not sexually active although I could be wrong, but if you have not had sex, that is one of the two things that will cause HIV. The other is if you do or did drugs. If you have neveer done drugs and shared needles and you have never had sex then I dont see how you can possibly have aids unless you were born with the virus in which case I would hope that your parents or guardians would have told you by now. If you really feel there is a possibility that you may have this virus, then you can buy a home kit, but it is surely more accurate if you went to a clinic or your normal doctor and let them take your blood and have the lab work done ad let them view your results and they will be much more thourough and accurate than a kit at the store. If you feel you have this virus I would set up an appointmnt ASAP. Best of luck. God bless.

I would never trust a home kit or do it yourself tester for something like AIDS which is such a complicated disease that a $40 kit wouldn't be sophisticated enough to detect. Aids can only be caught in a few ways which are:

Inherited from a parent (If your mother didn't have it when you were born then you wouldn't have it from this source.)

From homosexual unprotected sex (Deposit of infected semen in the anus)

Sharing needles with an infected drug user

Receiving a contaminated blood transfusion.

From unprotected heterosexual sex with an infected person.

If none of these apply you won't have it but if you are worried go to see your doctor for a proper test, which should be free. Don't waste your money on a kit.

Good grief, you're 14! You shouldn't even have to be worrying about these kinds of things at your age! But since I'm being frank with you anyway, if you have it, it's not going to matter whether you test yourself now, or wait a week--although I would certainly be more confident with the test results obtained from some type of a professional. And lastly, if you REALLY want to be cautious, and make sure you LIVE, keep yourself to yourself! Then you definitely won't have to be worrying about it. It's the only way you can ever be certain!

Are you sexually active? Do you share needles with others? Have you had a blood transfusion? If not, you don't have AIDS or HIV. But if you have done one of the above, your best bet would to go and see a doctor, or go to your local health department. The health department will keep the test anonymous. The store bought tests cant be trusted.

Am curious as to why a 14yo would want hiv testing? Any way thats besides the point. It really depends on how sexually active you have been and what the people you have been with are like. If you are anxious about it id suggest you buy a test!

You can get tested for free! And where the hell do you get a sufficient HIV home test?! That's proposterous! Go to Planned Parenthood.

And by the way, you can only attract The HIV virus through intercourse or dirty needles ( And it can be passed on through birth). Have you had sex with someone who's previous sex partners you were unaware about or shot up with a used needle?

You're fine. Don't sweat it.

You're 14 and if you haven't been sexually active and don't share needles for drugs, then you don't have HIV. If your mom had it she could have transferred it to you but they would have found that at infancy, not when you're 14. So calm down kid. Besides, if you bought a kit it's probably not really that accurate. It's better to get tested at a clinic.

Have you been sexually active? Have you used drugs and shared needles? If yes on both questions or even one of them then yes, I would suggest getting a kit and getting tested. If your answer is no, then you do not have to worry about getting aids. If you are concerned then go to a local clinic and most will test you for free, but you might have to have parental consent.

If you think you were exposed to blood, semen, or other bodily fluids of someone who may be HIV positive, you may want to call an HIV Hotline before spending your money. I'm sure there are free & confidential ones in every country.

It's my understanding that even if you're exposed, your body won't create antibodies to show up on the test for 6 months.
