There are actually 3 types of muscle tissue: Smooth, skeletal and cardiac. See this link: http://adam.about.com/encyclopedia/Types-of-muscle-tissue.htm?iam=anaconda

Or google "Types of muscle tissue" like I did for you. Good luck with your paper!

Two properties? Well, all muscles have four main properties: elasticity (will regain their shape after being stretched), excitability (can be stimulated by nerves), extensibility (can be extended), and contractility (can contract).

Muscle can be separated into three types:
Skeletal, which allows you to move
Smooth, which controls organs
Cardiac, which is the heart muscle.

Skeletal and cardiac muscle is striated (has stripes), while smooth muscle, as expected, is non-striated. The striations are caused by parts of the muscle cell. (I won't go into detail on that, because it's pretty complicated.)

Muscle can also be classified by the number of nuclei each cell has. Skeletal and cardiac muscle tissue is multinucleate, meaning that each cell has many nuclei, while smooth muscle tissue cells contain only one nucleus each.

I hope this random mishmash of information helps!
