You are not that smart! There are such words as evolutionist (a person who believes in evolution) and evolutionism (the belief that we evolved) The suffix -ist is used to show that an individual practices, believes, or is concerned with certain things. -ism means a belief in something. Don't ask us why we know how to speak properly, ask the greeks. Go back to 9th grade English. Shoot, try elementary.

I don't think that 'id' is a suffix in the word vivid. It derives from the Latin vividus and from vivere : to live).
