i have a fake prelit tree with clear bulbs on it and I decorate it with Red, Gold and Ivory trimmery. I like the fake trees because they are always full (no bare spots) they don't drop needles, and are always the same color throughout the season. I also love that this one is prelit because I hate fighting with those strings of lights every year. And its sooooo easy to put up! As for some peoples arguement that they don't smell the same...there is a spray for artificial trees that gives it a terrific pine smell....and also plenty of pine scented candles that I buy so my house has an unquestionable christmas-y smell.
I also have a smaller tree that I put ornaments on that I've received as gifts or have sentimental value to me that don't really match the red, gold and ivory theme on my main tree. Its also fake.

Our tree this year (and every year) will be a fake pine tree. We don't really have a set color theme, we just use multi color lights, silver or gold garland and then various Christmas ornaments that we have collected over the years which all have some sort of story connected with them. Some are from when I was a kid, some from when my parents were kids, some were my Grandma's, some are ones my daughter (who is 2) picked out, some are ones that my husband and I have purchased when we go up to Estes Park every year (if you go there you MUST go to the Spruce House which is a Christmas store with the coolest ornaments anywhere), some I have made, and others are ones we have just collected together or found at antique stores.
I prefer artificial (fake) pine Christmas trees becuase you don't have to water it (all of my plants end up dying because I always forget to water them) and because the fake ones are a little more sturdy (very important when you have a toddler), the fake ones don't loose pine needles all over your house, they are less of a fire hazard than real trees and best of all - when Christmas is over, you just put it in the box and put it in storage until next year - no bothering with taking it to the dump or with having to buy another tree the next year. :)

We always do fake (can't have real) and then I like to burn the pine and Christmas scented candles. We have an array of colors, but the best ornaments of all are the kid's ornaments. I started a tradition many years ago, that I would get them a new ornament every year that was based on something that happened to them that year, ie. when my daughter started playing the piano her ornament was a little girl standing by a piano, when the boys graduated, their ornament was a graduation cap. I always have their name and the year put on it for them. It has been so wonderful to watch our tree fill up with my kids "biggest" moments as the years have passed. And even though they (2 of them) are grown and married, I still carry on the tradition and every year they come home to get their new ornament and put them on the tree. Then someday when I am gone they can each have their ornaments to fill their own tree and perhaps remember their moments with their kids and grandkids.

Real tree, all green, pine.
My husband owns a fake tree, but I miss my real tree...I'm from the West Coast where you can get a wilderness permit and cut your own for $15 - The past few years, we've used his "color coded" fake tree and it's just not the same...Doesn't look the same, feel the same or smell the same....He promised this year that he'd get me a real tree...

We get a real tree every year, usually a Fraiser Fir or Douglas Fir since the needles are softer & don't give me hives while decorating. The tree gets decorated in all of the colors of the rainbow, starting with the 700+ lights that go on first.

Christmas trees HAVE to be REAL. It's just not Christmas without that amazing smell and fresh feel of a real tree. I decorate mine in gold and red. More gold though, it looks very luxurious and warm. I love the colored lights as well and laying on the floor staring at the lights. :) I usually go for the Fir trees, they last longer and have a stronger scent. :D

our christmas trees r ALWAYS real. no matter what. as for colors. we usually use clear lights inside the tree on the branches and then colored lights on the outside. and we prefer real pine trees. they make the house smell really good. we have our tree and then we light vanilla scented candles. it makes the house smell awesome
EDIT: we also use all the homemade ornaments we made when we were little. it just makes christmas that much more special.

We have a fake palm tree. It's about 6 feet high. We hang the decorations off the fronds on the top and wind the little lights all around the trunk. All different colors.

I have a 7 ft. white tree with wt.lights and a 4 ft. green tree it would be colored lights haven't decided which one I will use this year. That would be fake trees.I prefer colorado blue spruce if I were using real, when they are way too expensive here.Think $75.00 for a four foot size so I use articifal trees and like them just fine.I also use 3 ft ones outside and decorate with pinecones and peanut butter bird seeds for the birds and squirrels. It works out fine, the outside ones stay up untill spring when the birds can fend for themselves.Happy holiday and a Merry Christmas to you.!
