There are many people who work that don't need the money. Take actors for instance. Some make millions and continue to work on new projects. The same goes for Bill Gates, who clearly doesn't need to work, but continues to develop programs to help businesswomen abroad, tackle disease & improve high school graduation statistics. When you work at something you are passionate about, you help yourself and others thru your contribution and knowledge. It doesn't matter if you are a janitor or jk rowling (harry potter author) your work affects others and makes the world a better place. The benefits you receive thru work, satisfaction that you contributed, learning or improving a skill, relationships with co-workers, are the same for all.
Not all benefits need to be monetary.

I think there are benefits to working, if you are doing a job that suits you. If you are just doing it for the paycheck it gets old fast. I haven't been able to work in awhile because of my allergies and I miss being around other people. My last job was in a small restaurant and I enjoyed it. I liked being a waitress and getting to know the customers and it was great exercise. Volunteering places works for me, I can do it when I feel like it and can avoid the things that trigger my migraines.

Yes, there are many benefits from working.
If you want to have a sharp mind, working with numbers and problem solving will keep your mind sharp and healthy.
If you are bored at home with no hobbies, working in a craft store can become your hobby. You can get ideas from customers and co-workers on want to make, collect, and use in your daily life.
If you like to read, then working in a bookstore, library, or even in a school may let you explore need worlds you haven't yet found in the books you have an interest in.
If you like art, especially painting, then working in an art gallary or art school can inspire your creativity.

The one thing I do not miss is office politics. The other benefits i get are found in volunteering. I like the people I work with in that capacity. No one is trying to out do each other and put you down.

It gives you a reason to get up in the morning and the camaradarie of seeing other people in day to day life. The stress of getting to work was never good , especially if I had to take the bus in bad weather, mind you, I always got there on time. I think you could get the same benefits with volunteer work. It's good to get up and about during the day otherwise you fall into the habit of staying in bed too long. With my grandaughter living with us, it gets me up and I see that she gets to school safely and has her lunch , then I can do my daily chores in my own time.

Retirement pay - Medical Benefits, $10.00 prescriptions, Dr. visits are paid for by the company, Life Insurance, and the sense that I have honestly earned it all.

I've made some wonderful friends at work but for the most part, I consider it a necessary evil.
