It is not a coin but a medal. There are hundreds of different types and kinds for they have been made by a lot of companies of a good many years. A large batch came out in the 1960's and even more during 1976. Most of the common ones today are aluminum and came from gas company promotions. They have little value except to teach someone about the presidents. James Madison is one of my favorite presidents, he only stood 5ft 4 in but being short did not stop him from being the man behind the push for the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution. His friend Thomas Jefferson called him "the greatest man in the world" I have several 3 inch and larger bronze medals of this man as well as some other founding fathers. Teach your son about this man, you can not pick a better person.
