I suspect that asians in 'asia' do well in school because they have far fewer distractions. As a teacheIi can tell you for a fact that when 4th graders have I-Pods, Gameboys, cell phones and video games, not to mention TV there's not a lot of time in the day to deal with such boring subjects as math, english, science, literature and the arts. By the time a kid is in middle school he/she has all that stuff plus the added burden of 'boy meets girl' and 'girl meets boy'. This is no joke.....we have a school generation of 'stimulation' junkies, jazzed up on sugared drinks and I don't give a #$%^ attitudes. I'm beginning to think about 'vouchers'....some way to weed out the kids that can be saved from the kids that can't. That sounds harsh, but we're going to need a cadre of educated people in this century and while public education is 'good' and effective, the customer base has been practically destroyed by electronic gadgets geared toward entertainment. Feed 'em and keep 'em occupied...or bread and circuses.....something to think about!

It is a function of culture. Many Asian cultures view a child's sole responsibility as learning.

The children are more likely to be very well disciplined in their studies as their parents do not accept poor performance.

No
They do much better, because their instructors are viewed as respectable members of the community, and get paid better than the ones in other countries.
They also attend school for longer hours, and more days a year, so they have more years of education by the time they graduate, than American students.

They don't have the "those who can do, and those who can't, teach" view of teachers.

How stupid. For one thing, they do better in EVERYTHING, not just science. We DID do better (when we were MORE religious, incidentally) when we, as a country and as parents, had a moral backbone and instilled in children the value of education and delayed gratification. Now we teach them that materialism, instant gratification and pop cultural drivel is all that matters.

Nothing to do wit religion. Its more if because we are forced to. lol. Cause if we dont do good in school, well its gonna be hell at home..lol. There'll be a pretty long speech everyday from your rents...and usually those speeches are pretty melodramatic and annoying so I would rather do good in school than that.

Asians do better in school because there is more discipline and respect for family values in their cultures.

And which religion would that be? Asia is an awfully large and diverse place.

No - their parent and role models encourage studying much more than other races for starters

No, Asians value education. We Americans do not. They are producers, we are salespeople.
