It would seem that people should have been "paid" to come and get their TB medicine all these years ago. Then this might not have developed so far.
I shall quote the Mail and Guardian once more:

What is your opinion on this?
Was it inevitable that something like this would happen?

*Edit* Is there anything wrong with this Q. Some helpful idiot reported it to customer care for contravening the community guidelines. Hello ? Can someone please tell me WHY?

**Edit* Stuyviesblue, talk about biting the hand that feeds it ! They obviously have not been informed about the seriousness of their disease. And definitely have not been informed why they are confined in isolation for the whole world´s benefit.

Well done on that bit of counter reporting!

You'r right. This is terrifying.
Ive known about MDR strains for at 3 years now, and i know that it is VITAL to finish your treatment. Its only what 6 weeks.
Now why dont the ppl who get infected know this? Do the ppl prescribing the meds know this? Do they tell the patient how important it is to finish the whole treatment? Im starting to really doubt it; not surprising if you look at who's in control of health care in SA.
In fact, i dont think the infected ppl know how dangerous they are. I live close enough to the Sizwe Tropical Disease Center, where those infected in Gauteng are quarantined, to read what happens there in our local news. They are STRIKING to be let out! They complain of being seperated from their families, as if they totally oblivious to the fact that they are carrying a killer virus.

Can I say that I am not surprised at all. i have heard about incidents where people actually refuses treatment an put others in danger as well. TB is a curable decease and the reluctance and shortsightedness so the patients to take their medication on a daily basis is a shame. Not only do they risk their own lives but those of others too.
