In a tennis tournament there are 39 entries. how many matches must be plated before there is a champion?

this is really hard. its a worksheet i have to do for school. the other question i cant figure out is "a man builds a house with four sides to it, a rectangular structure. Each side has a southern exposure. A big bear comes wandering by. what color is the bear?"

If the tennis tournament is single elimination (one loss and out) then 38 matches are needed to eliminate all but the champion. If it is double elimination 76 or 77 matches are required depending upon whether the eventual champion has one loss.
The second answer is brown or whatever color polar bears are. Only at the North Pole does one have a southern exposure in all directions.
