You can get yourself a crate and crate him for a few hours of the day, thus restricting his energy level. It's not the food your feeding his as that is good quality. You can also consider adding marrow bones to his diet, as well as making sure he is parasite free.

If hes on the go all the time try feeding him a diet designed for active and working breeds, this may help him gain and keep the weight on. Feeding him a well balanced diet is best if you start adding extra Protein and other extra nutrients etc to his diet you may get the balance part a little unbalanced which could cause him some probs. If he runs around in circles all day in ur yard he may be getting bored-Try some structured exercise or training some thing that he has to use his brain a bit more for.

Pits are very active to begin with specially the first year, What your dog does is very healthy.
To put on weight on him add alittle more protein to his diet after around 11 months you do this by reading the label on dog food you buy. (can food usually has more and they love it)
Be carefull about his age, if you give him too much protein at an early age his stance wont look right specially above his paws of ankle, I learned this the hard way.
