My aging brother met a woman on the internet who lives in the Phillipines. The romance was immediate, love at first webcam session, and has been going on for only 3 months now. He just got word of recieving a sizeable inheritance, and bango the relationship escalated to getting married. He left for the Phillipines to get married to this lady who is described as 40, English teacher, born again Christain, no children and never been married. He arrived in Manila a few days ago and today is the wedding day. He said he has met her family so he knows this is legitimate and not a scam. He said women from the Phillipines don't have their families present if its a scam. Needless to say we are all worried back home in the USA. It happened so quickly. Any one else here know of situations like this??

Well, I am hoping for his sake that she is not a scammer. Honestly you cannot tell cause it is the person not that they are from the Philippines.I dont know why he is in such a rush to get married. The best test is the test of time. if it is a scam they would move on. You can only be there to support him no matter what happens. You may find out that she will make a very loving wife that will take care of him. It is very typical for young filipina women to marry older men.One thing is for sure she has to stay married for at least 3 years until she becomes a citizen. There is nothing you can do but be there for him and support his choice. If you try to get between them you will only push him away from you and your family.

P.S. I have been married 11 years to a filipina

I have been married for over 15 years to a Filipina. The problem is that there are some Filipinas who are just marrying older Western men to get to the West so as to have more money and a better life. Unfortunately some as soon as they can get a Western passport and Nationality want a divorce and half the man's money or more!

The biggest problem is that when they come to the West they change dramatically. They begin to adopt Western moral decadence and no longer hold to their Philippine traditions which in fact are much better and more morally sound. The big mistake is to bring them to the West. In many cases these marriages would not fail if the couple lived in the Philippines. It is the corrosive effect of bringing an innocent, delightful Filipina to the West and all of its depravity which causes the problems.

Nevertheless, do not panic yet. Many such marriages do manage to survive, against the odds, and refreshingly as in this case it seems, those based on real and sincere Christian values mostly do survive, so there is every hope here in this case from what you write.

Well, not all filipinas are like that. Like marrying just for the sake of having a greener pasture here in the US. I am a filipina myself and I have friends who are married to americans. And I must say that their marriages are working really great as opposed to american to american marriage. Most Filipinos really value the marriage and we see it as a sacred thing..and as much as possible we want to have it work all the way through.. Though, I must admit on the other hand that there are also a lot of filipinas who are taking advantage just to get here in the US. With you bro's situation, its hard to tell...Coz in reality its hard to think that 2 people will fall in love without actually meeting each other in person....But give it a try. Try not to judge the filipina right away. Tell your brother what you think of the situation and take it from there. And for now let's just hope that their marriage will last

I know of many older men who marry their Filipina penpals. I believe that most of them marry to come to the U.S. and want a better life for themselves and for their families.

In fact, my own uncle did this. He went to the Phil. and within a week, he was married. As soon as he married her, his new wife started demanding money to be sent on a regular basis to her family in the Phil. Now, his wife's family is also in the U.S. and lives with them.

I personally know of other older men who married much younger Filipina women than themselves. Same thing....it was a way out of the Phil. and a ticket to the U.S. Their families are also now in the U.S. too.

I believe that most men have their egos stroked by these cyber/pen pals and can't think clearly. Not trying to be mean, but in most circumstances, this is the truth.

Phillipine women are always looking for the bigger, better deal. Your brother will get screwed over in the future by his bride.
